2015 ANZAC Commemoration at St Damian's

1 May 2015 | General Interest

Last Friday the school community attended a very moving ANZAC Day Service prepared by the Year Five/Six teachers and students. This gave the students the opportunity to acknowledge the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

Some families may have seen the 5000 Poppy project displayed at Federation Square either in person or on the news over the weekend. It was an amazing community tribute of respect and remembrance. We thank the members of our community who have already contributed to our beautiful Poppy ‘field’ growing in the foyer. Students, parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and teachers are enjoying knitting, crocheting and creating a variety of poppies to display. It is wonderful to see what can be created when we work together to enhance the learning environment for our students.  We would like this to grow throughout the year to include Remembrance Day. If you, a friend or relative would like to contribute to this display we  invite you to use the pattern available through the school.
